Claudio Monteverdi revolutionised music with his unique way of interpreting how it should express the emotional lines in a text. Il combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda is an excellent example of this. A story that helps us reflect on the nature of love, loss and relationships understood as struggles. Subjects that are a constant theme running through some of his madrigals. Tiny jewels that talk of relationships, of the mystery of love, of seduction, of falling in love or imposing it on others, of finding it or losing it...and in the end discovering that we cannot live without it.
With this new commission, the Carmen Cloister will once again provide the setting for a new work. A concert staged with ancient music from conductor Fausto Nardi and stage director Joan Anton Rechi, who makes his Festival début this year.
A mediaeval fight, an emotional fight. A poetic circle inspired by the music of Monteverdi.
A pocket proposal première.
